Breathing Through Your Heart Chakra
by Johanna Kern
We are all capable of living the beauty of our Heart, as long as we find out our purpose and what it is that we truly want, and need, to bring to the world.
Survival fears, fear of getting hurt, fear of loneliness, and continuous stress and nervous tension are usually related to poor functioning of our so-called “heart chakra”. Drawn by such fears, we might sabotage our relationships, never mature emotionally, subconsciously attract the so-called “wrong people” and be prone to accidents or end up in difficult situations.
Or, when our “heart chakra” is overactive, we may be smothering others with our love and affection, we can be co-dependent and over-protective of our children — and our love most likely would have selfish motives.
When I was 9 years old, I used to sit for hours outside on the lawn, not knowing that I was, in fact, meditating. It came to me in the most natural way. I loved being in the present moment, letting my breath “weave” around the breeze and flow with it in unison, embracing plants, trees and stones. I was never bored as a child while being alone. My simple routine made me feel included in the world, loved by what surrounded me, and loving it back.
As children, we can balance our heart chakra intuitively. As adults, we often need to re-initiate and re-learn the connection with our Heart. (In the Master Teachings of HOPE we use the word “Heart” to describe the core of our essence, our “pure inner person.”)
It is the concept of linear time in our adult life that often gets in our way when we are seeking Oneness, while we are caught in the busyness of our life. If we took the linear time concept out of our minds, we could finally experience eternity, omnipresence, and pure love — possible only when there is no conditioning by the past and future. We would be present in a single, timeless moment. Such an eternal moment is our true reality, outside of the illusion of matter, spirit and time.
When our “heart chakra” is out of balance, we may develop a number of symptoms. Many healers have observed that the malfunction of the “heart chakra” can cause cancer, heart problems, circulation problems, involuntary muscle movements, thymus gland disorders, spine problems, frequent colds, depression, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder and other conditions.
One of the most effective ways to reconnect with our Heart is breathing through our “heart chakra”.
Find a comfortable position. And then take a few deep breaths. Do it slowly, for there is no need to rush. When you are ready, close your eyes, and imagine the following:
You are sitting on the beach, facing a beautiful emerald ocean. With your eyes closed you feel the gentle breeze embrace your entire body: your legs, thighs, belly and chest, your arms and neck, your face and entire head.
You notice that the soothing breeze comes and goes with the movement of the waves. It is a very pleasant feeling to become a part of such a harmonious and peaceful process.
Now you feel your own breath becoming a part of the peaceful rhythm — In: the breeze comes to embrace you; Out: the breeze goes back to the ocean. Keep breathing and enjoy the loving breeze.
Now imagine that the loving breeze brings your entire body in and out of existence. The loving breeze flows easily through your heart chakra — In: the breeze flowing through your “heart chakra” brings your body into existence; Out: the breeze flows out from your heart chakra and your body dissolves into oneness with the ocean.
Keep breathing and enjoy the love you feel inside. It is up to you how long you will stay with this exercise. You know your own rhythm best. You also know the true rhythm of your heart.
Breathing through our “heart chakra” helps us become aware that even though we live in the illusion, as a part of the Wheel of Creation, not only can we experience the process of creation and the energy of pure love, but we can also create our own experience.
